The mind is a finely tuned instrument, and to play it well requires skill. Happiness is a result of a mind focussed on thoughts and activities that create a sense of joy. There are a variety of ways to generate happiness. Start by focussing your mind on thoughts of gratitude, on memories of a happy circumstance, and/or doing something that brings you happiness. Tuning the mind to resonate with happiness also requires that you dismiss thoughts that lead to sadness or anger. You must be vigilant in guarding your thoughts, and be the master, not the slave.
